Wednesday 9th September 2009

Another wonderful morning in Boston.  The view from our bedroom (pent house as it felt) was fantastic.  You could see old with new buildings.  Coloured buildings in creams, greens, its just like you see in the films.  Breakfast was lush again.  Today was about US.  No hospitals, no chemo, no phones – no other issues – just to be normal for one day and knowing that was such a wonderful feeling to both of us.

We took the tube to Downtown Crossing.  This is the centre of Boston itself – everything happens here.  Apparently it is not as busy as it used to be – city has grown, people moved further out of town etc.

Its strange to see civic halls next to 30  storey buildings.  If any of you have seen Stewart Little, you know the film, about the little mouse that lives with humans.  Well I am sure it was filmed in Boston, MA.  The houses are all really like you see in the films, big stairs to the front wooden doors – trees on the streets – very english, very quaint – well after all, Boston was the new england many many years ago (so I am told by Michael – my walking history bank).  He is was full of information about the place – he really can apply himself at times you know – very clever – just underestimated by himself.

When crossing a road in another land is always a risk – and to us – this has always been a danger – lol.  Whenever we crossed a road we just could not get used to looking in the opposite direction, at one point (which I was blamed for because I wanted to look at the buildings from across the street) we almost got ran over – the guy shouted from behind the wheel “you gotta look both ways brother” and obviously Michael pointed at me and blamed me – how cool is that lol.  We visited the original cheers bar (bull finch pub as it was originally called).  It was packed, everyone wanting to be a part of the history.

On the top of the bar, people had left their business cards – its a tradition in the US, so I left mine – Intec Business Colleges is now know in the Cheers bar, Boston, Ma – you never know some one could be looking to complete and nvq there – stranger things have happened!!.

We walked down to the water front (harbour as you and I would call it).  The view was awesome.  It was only small but the boats (yachts) were huge – obviously people with loads of money.  We sat there and watched the world go by for about half on hour – people watching is fantastic lol.  Or are us english just nosey folk?

We then took a walk back up into the town – no one rushed about like they do over in england or like you see them in New York – it was such a calm atmosphere.

We eventually took to the tube back to the Somerville where our hotel was.  It was only about half hour on the tube.  Getting round Boston is so easy.  Every train is linked and easy for the stupid to understand so we were right at home – don't think you would need to use a sat nav.

Showered and changed for dinner – we just stayed in the hotel this evening – honestly, most couples would be getting ready to venture out and see all the late bars etc and get drunk – to be honest, that was never our intention from the start of this trip – we had gone there for a purpose and enjoyed the relax time.

Again, another night in bed before 9.30pm – wow my mother would be impressed – we were impressed of ourselves.
