Thursday 10th September 2009 Today was going home day. We packed our bags and made sure that the room was tidy for the cleaner strange how one cleans up before the cleaner arrives what is all that about? When I first contacted Dana Farber, a nice lady called Carolyn first originally replied to my email. She herself was from England and her parents now resided in Billingham, Cleveland. We had exchanged numbers and were off to meet her for lunch. They say small town, I beg to differ, small world we live in. They say you are 5 links away from someone you know? Lunch was lovely. It was great putting a name and face together finally. Carolyn was lovely. Michael and I spoke at great length with her regarding treatment, our lives her life etc. However, before we knew it, she had to go to work and we had to be at the airport. We said out thank you's and hugs and goodbyes and promised to stay in touch (which I may add, we have since arriving back home). Back on the tube and to collect our bags from the hotel. Taxi picked us up and before we knew it well, we were in Logan Airport. Whilst waiting to depart we decided to have some soup or bread before our long flight back. Flight food is not highly recommended. As we were trying to decide what to have, I turned to the guy next to me and asked what he was having I thought he was a security guard I was all stupid and silly and then Michael informed me that I was chatting up a state trooper well how was I suppose to know nothing to do with the big badge, the gun and huge hat he was wearing oh god how to make an idiot of yourself. The guy ate his soup, left the eating area and collected his sniffer god oh great just my luck had an awful feeling he was sure to stop us don't know what for but it was bound to our luck of getting searched or something lol. As it happens, we didn't get stopped or search so you can breathe again phew!. Boarded the internal flight at 7.05pm from Logan to JFK the plane was full of business men and women. When leaving Logan the sun was setting and the view from the plane was one of red skies against the muddled up skyline of buildings if only were we able use our cameras the view was like no other that either of us had seen we flew up into the evening sky and would soon be landing in JFK Airport New York. What a dump of an airport. The name of it sounds great very grand its not its old and tired now. Maybe in it day it had been one of granduar, but not now. Disappointing really. The connection was quick so before we knew it were were on our way again. Flying over NY was magnificent. All the lights twinkle at you. You can see the laser lights that are situated on ground zero. Unfortunately we did not see the big lady with her touch, but she will have been waving I am sure. The flight home was the most uncomfortable flight ever, even though we had 3 seats between 2 of us. No matter which way you sat, you just couldn't get comfortable. The flight attendants were very American, lots of white shiny teeth, perfect hair and hay how are you today. Eventually, we arrived at Manchester Airport its lovely to go away, but when you see your own motherland, well it fills you with content. The green fields, smoking factory chimney's, rivers that down seem to flow anywhere in particular english countryside its fantastic. Getting through customs was sooooo much easier at this end. We walked straight through, collected our cases and made our way through the gates to be greeted by the wonderful bestest friend ever jacqui. She stood there all smiles and emotional hugs kisses and off up the M62, A1 back to sunny Middlesbrough aahhhh its good to be home ...........
